Lol, we'll my first pipe was a corn cob pipe and a pouch of Half and Half bright and burley. It wasn't to bad, I enjoyed it, but I didn't know about tampering and proper filling technique at the time. I found that had a fairly significant nicotine punch to it. Since then, I've bought 2 Peterson pipes and love them both, especially my system bend. I've been enjoying their line of tobaccos as well, but I haven't really gone back to a none aromatic tobacco. I'm curious about their University flake

The closest thing I have to brand loyalty on pipes is whatever decent briar pipe I can find cheap on ebay. Of course I am pretty new to pipe smoking. So I have only tried 5 brands of pipes. Same goes for pipe tobacco. I have only tried a few different kinds. But so far I am liking what I got from C&D. Billy Budd has gotten me interested in trying other English blends. Prior to trying Billy Budd all I had smoked is aromatics.

Like you, I look more at the shape and feel of the pipe than to its make. I do find that the shapes of Genod pipes do tend to appeal to me.
As for tobacco, I go for what's in the blend, not who made it. Very nice classic Oom-Paul you are smoking in this video.

@PipefrinedCHS I smoke what I like, regardless of brand. I like all pipes from Dr. Grabow to Peterson, Mario Grandi, Savinelli, and others. If it tastes good and smokes good why not smoke it or out of it.
