Its amazing what you can find lying around in storage boxes...! Here's a C64GS Games System console with a "l@@k r@r3!!1one" TIB DD-001 disk drive (sometimes referred to as the TIB Ultimate) balanced on top of it and connected via the cartridge port. The machine is pretty much a C64 board without some I/O components and an alternative ROM internally (its usually an EPROM with the GS from what i've seen) whilst the drive uses standard MS-DOS format 720K 3.5" disks and an EPROM in the cartridge interface to wedge itself into the system

Since data is transferred in parallel, it loads large programs in a matter of seconds and the only issue is that this and the other DD-001 i've got are both the earlier version that gets power for the drive from the cartridge port and as a result there's a "heartbeat" as the drive works because it draws an excessive amount of power from the machine!

The games being loaded are Firefly and Ninja Rabbits.

  • Good skills :)

  • @heavystylus Nah, there's no skills involved; the TIB DD-001 works on ANY C64 through the cartridge port and the C64GS is just a C64 board with some of the components missing! (Well, that particular one has had a few of them added back in but generally speaking... =-)
