. . . . . Happy memories of this, the 'Phoenix' Festival, Nr Stratford Upn Avon in 1996 ('Glastonbury' was cancelled that year and so commercially took it's place but it was spiritually closer to 'Reading' as it was run by the same people); there was huge anticipation of the Manics who had just in the previous few weeks released the 'Everything Must Go' album / 'Design For Life' single, catapulting them into the stratosphere and this was there first big venue/date since, certainly their first festival appearance of the campaign.There was also a phenomenal heatwave and a feelgood vibe to the place and the Manics did not disappoint as you can see here. Along with 'The Prodigy' and Neil Young they were the act of the weekend (this is before they had reached the dizzy heights of headliner status).
