@frtknokr It all comes down to Personal taste and playing style. Sorry to rant and rave, but people talking about the "proper" way of doing nearly anything in music, sort of sets me off.

@frtknokr Case in point, Dale's finger style bass on this song fits perfectly with songs softer more minor and pretty feel. A pick style bass line would sound very different, and would probably not fit the song. On the other end of the spectrum, 90% of finger style bassists do not have the power, attack, and/or speed necessary for many genres of heavy metal music, such as thrash or the like (Cliff Burton, and Robert Trujjillo being the first exceptions to pop into my mind).

@frtknokr It's a different style of playing bass. Finger style and pick style each provide a different sound and feel to both the player and the music. It varies between players, and between songs. While a style may be suited for one song or type of music, it may not be suited for another.
