A theremin performance of "Voi Che Sapete" from "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart.

This week I decided I'd return to my Moog Etherwave Standard theremin for a change - and I'm glad I did, because it reminded me what a great theremin it is! As much as I enjoy playing the E-Pro and Wavefront Classic theremins, the Standard really does have a most pleasant and distinctive timbre of its own. I've had a lot of fun running through my repertoire on it ... so thought I'd go one better and record something for Youtube. I learned this piece several months ago (I uploaded a video of me playing it on the E-Pro - two octaves higher!), so it seemed like a good piece to record an alternate version of with the E-Standard.
Hopefully, I'll upload a few more pieces from my regular repertoire on the E-Standard soon!

  • Great! Yes, fantastic tuning on the short notes! Definitely an improvement, although we enjoyed your previous rendition very much as well! Have added this to our Accompanying Thereminists playlist too. Best wishes!

  • Thank you!

Yes, I think almost another year of practice has helped me improve - and play more consistently. Whereas, at one time, if I missed a few days practicing, I felt like I was starting over again - I now don't seem to lose ground (with the aerial-fingering/muscle memory more established).

I, too, still enjoy the previous version (2 octaves-higher whistling sound). Perhaps sometime I should try recording an inbetween version on the E-Pro theremin that sounds more vocal.

  • Impressive nailing the pitch! Terrific!

  • Thank you for your kind comment!

It's a speedy piece, so there's virtually no time for correcting missed notes ... however, I have to admit that most of them seem to me to be a fairly comfortable/do-able distance apart, which, in some respects, can be easier than a slower tune with big awkward jumps!

  • As usually it sounds wonderful light sounded and easily going again!

Aw yeah ... And I love your sweater ;-)

  • Thank you! I always enjoy playing this piece ... there's a tranquil, happy feel to it, I think.

Yep ;-) As you say, tranquil ... Maybe a better word for it! :D

Yeah ... You are right too about the sound of the Moog Etherwave theremin ... Warm and lovely ... That's why I fall in love with the Moog Etherwave theremin too! In my opinion, it sunds even warmer than the Moog Etherwave Pro ;-)
