This is a great opener that Don Alan used for many years and was a development of the classic cigar from purse trick. The magician announces that a purse has been found and enquires if the owner is in the audience He then goes on and opens the purse and shows and describes the contents - paper money, some loose change, a bunch of keys, and a packet of three - polo mints!

After a pause he then says "Oh yes - and a coat hanger!" On saying this he then pulls out a solid, wooden 13-inch coat hanger and drops it on the table to prove its solidity!

It was a stunning opener that caught everyone and was used on many occasions when Don Alan appeared on network chat shows in the USA to the delight and surprise of Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett and other chat show hosts.
