OK, so according to this video, and the test I just did, I would say I have a 3185 old movement.
I have the red/black GMT master II with the old mechanism.
My 24 hour hand wiggles a little tiny bit when I move the 12 hour hand...
But what does this all really mean ? My watch tells the time and it is reliable.
What does it matter if I have a 3185 or a 3186 ??
I bought my watch new from the official rolex dealer in Copenhagen in 2004.
It also has hidden band pins. Meaning ? Anyone ?? :o)

Excellent! One simple video showed the difference between the 3186 and the 3185. Thanks!

I'm still sort of vague on the test.

Cool, thanks, i've been going freaking nuts trying to "read" what the wiggle test should look like.

Got it, so if you don't see anything jump them its the 3185? I am being offered an "M" series Coke GMT in the 6 series serial number and assume it has the new 3186. The price is not bad but the card in filled in. That's the shame of it. He is asking 5,700

If you don't see any jump, it is likely 3186. A "M" GMT2 most likely has 3186.
Please don't refer prices here. This clip is for information use only, not for trading purposes.

I don't see the red hand moving at all but I do see the hour hand wiggle. So is this a positive or neg result?

If you set the hour hand (12hr hand) to "jump", and the red hand (24hr hand) doesn't move at all, likely you got a 3186 and it passes the wiggle test.

OK, so is it that the minute hand moves when you change the hour hand changes? And what does this confirm, that its a 3186 movement?

Check the 24hr hand. On a 3186, it doesn't "wiggle" much when you quick set the 12hr hand. On a 3185, the 24hr hand wiggles a lot.
