Another fine Ka performance by the Beltronics STi-R, Escort Passport 9500ci, and Whistler XTR-695SE (which essentially tied in alerting) to rear and then following IO (instant-on) moving radar in a fiercely monitored corridor in southern New Jersey.

About the heaviest amount of Ka action I have seen in a long time. Hammonton, NJ police are absolutely brutal.

Notice how the Beltronics STi-R and Whistler XTR-695SE models are especially quick at alerting to the on-and-off nature of instant-on moving traffic radar. Both provide good texture to approaching IO threat.

Notes (Revised 16 May 11):

Revision #1: The increased levels of sensitivities of both remote-mounted detectors is quite apparent considering that they were alerting both from a handicapped position in the front of my vehicle as compared to the Whistler which enjoyed an advantaged higher mounting location.

Revision #2: The appearance of the STi-R and/or the Whistler in relation to alerting to IO shots of approaching vehicles that were ahead of me, may likely be the consequence of quicker responding detectors than the "slower-by-design" 9500ci.

I believe that both the 9500ci was capable (had enough sensitivity) of alerting to the same sources in the same manner as the STiR (and to a lessor degree the Whistler) if it didn't require the radar signal to be detected for long enough periods before alerting.

Mounting position of Passport 9500ci radar antenna: lower left bumper.

Mounting position of Beltronics STi-R radar/laser antenna: directly behind BMW kidney grill.

Mounting Locations may Account for some Performance Variance Between Remotes

  • Very interesting. Looks like this whistler is very comparable to this 9500ci but with a $500 price tag?

  • Escort are so cheap and never as good as their competitors. Did the same kinda test to a 120 dollar whistler and the whistler was going off on I 10 where as the escort never went off even when we were within 500ft of the State trooper....

  • truely unbelieveable :/

    f*ing popo :/

  • Rt 322 doesn't go through Hammonton. So it isn't a cash cow for Hammonton.

  • I just Pre order new Whistler SE...but ship date was 5/8 and now they move to 5/15 ,what up with that?
