China bought 60 highspeed trains from Germany and is expected to buy 60 more from Japan in the coming year as part of an ambitious plan to build the countrys first highspeed rail network. It will invest 250 bn$ in its railways in the next 15 years alone. Its all designed to ease the congestion which is caused by the countrys economic boom.
Simon Littlewood, President of Asia Now Quotes:
Chinas railways are unable to meet about 60% of demand so the demand is definitely there. Plus of course theres a double digit economic growth year after year. On the negative side, anyone that is going to put 250$bn or even a portion of that into infrastructure in China will want to know that the pricing and regulatory mechanisms are in place to ensure that they can make a profit. Currently they do not exist so there is a long journey to be made before foreign investors are likely to put their money.
