http://www.caryellis.com Get FREE Guide to Healing the Body http://www.vegetariansdiet.org http://www.loseweighthealthyandfast.com Vegetarian weight loss seems to be a really big topic these days. Of course weight loss in our culture is a hot topic anyway, and I suggest first of all that we change our thinking from weight loss to having a lean fit healthy body. Having a lean fit healthy body is simply a product of eating well and practicing fitness. Overtime our body will balance itself out, when we practice healthy routines on a daily basis.

As a vegetarian (four decades now!), one of the things that I've learned over the years is to consume only moderate amounts of grains. We need to each learn our body differences. Whether someone is a marathon runner or a little less active, depending on our personal body type, and blood type, will have a lot to do with how much heavier carbs we are able to burn. Our genetics also effects how well we burn different foods.
We might also look in our traditional cultural foods or our family heritage, the healthier versions of those foods maybe really good for us. I have a Mediterranean background and I love Mediterranean food, I could eat tabbouli, hummus and babaganoush all day long and never get tired of them.
One of my suggestions for vegetarian weight loss is to keep our grain consumption moderate. We need some grains at different times depending on our activity, depending on the weather, the season whether its winter and grain is a nice carbohydrate. Choosing grains such as rice, quinoa, barley and oats can help us avoid common wheat allergies that can also play a role in weight gain.

Excessive grain consumption has to do with our fossil fuel culture and the huge amount of industrial agriculture that takes place; but let's face it, the bottom line is food is for energy. Grain is a quick and easy way to feed a lot of people, so culturally it keeps our world going at this time in history. Grain is an inexpensive way to give us fuel to burn, we just need to manage how much and when we eat it. Always having grain in combination with some protein (even tofu or beans) helps the body burn this fuel in a more balanced way.
Exploring different grain such as quinoa, rice crackers and tortillas can keep us on the lighter side. Grains such as quinoa have complete protein and are a great addition to soups and crackers. Keeping grain to a minimum, maybe having a tortilla a day or a small serving of rice but not over doing it is a great strategy to choose to keep balance in the life and dietary choices, without going to the extreme of "no carbs."
Grains that are generally more allergenic are corn, wheat and soy because so much are consumed in our modern world due to industrialized agriculture. Becoming aware if we have allergic tendencies and avoiding these foods will gradually reduce our reaction to them. These choices can be helpful to vegetarian weight loss, and over time consuming small quantities of grains will decrease our sensitivities.
We also need healthy fats for vegetarian weight loss and those would be included as olive oil, preferably not cooked. Avocados contain another great fat and protein, that helps our body burn fat. A little bit of really good virgin olive oil in our salads, a little bit of coconut oil or coconut butter which is made from whole coconut is just awesome or even just plain shredded coconut that's not sweetened can add to our essential fatty acids. Coconut oil actually burns in the body like a carb, it supports healthy thyroid function and is really great for live, healthy energy. I love coconut in my morning green shakes and smoothies http://www.caryellis.com/best-green-smoothie.
Getting some activity every day getting activity first thing in the morning is a way to help our body burn better all day long. Drink plenty of fluids to cleanse. Get up in the morning and have a quart of warm water or tea (or warm water with a squirt of lemon) will flush toxins and make the body more alkaline.

  • Whats wrong with grains? If you're allergic then dont use grains but otherwise grains are terrific. Oils are loaded with fats which is not good for weight loss.

  • @medliberty There's nothing wrong with grains - in fact they have supported civilization for thousands of years of agriculture. They should be at the basis of vegetarian diet. That being said, with often sedentary lives and refined grains modern folks can overload with them. A well balanced veggie diet has fruits, veggies, grains, beans, nuts and seeds (and if consuming animal products some dairy). The body needs healthy oils to make hormones & have good skin, hair, etc.-olive oil, coconut...

  • GREAT video! I am transisitoning back to a plant-based diet (gonna' do it right this time and for life). I believe I relied a little too heavily on processed grains the first time and have since discovered I feel so much better and even drop a little weight when I cut them out. I am looking forward to more tips and info. for new veggies looking to lose weight and gain health. :)

  • I totally agree with your statements, I have been vegan raw food many years and quite physically active, a little food goes a long way and we need to focus on things like art music and activities thay stimulate growyth from within that we may more positively effect change and harmonious growth in our outer circles. I am now a subscriber

  • thanks for a great video. i agree with you on grains... i get so bloated and tired after eating a meal high in grains and i partially attribute this to my weight gain. hoping to cut them out and see what happens!

  • @kittygr01 Hi - Some soy milk is good - but not all the time, a little heavy for body. Try nut milks. Try protein for breakfast (rice protein and green powders) you can find at my website under the green smoothie post. Keep melas to 3 light per day with no grazing in between. Only water or plain tea between meals. 12 hours at night with no food, just water. Love yourself :)

  • @fionayoung21 it's not that the fats burn fats, our body needs fat, what she is saying is to get it from healthy sources not fries and stuff
