Trooper Donaldson VC meets the Queen
Sky News Australia: Wednesday 11 November, 2009
Australia's first Victoria Cross recipient in 40 years has been congratulated by The Queen at Windsor Castle.
SAS Trooper Mark Donaldson was invited to a private audience with the Queen so she could pay tribute to the bravery he showed in Afghanistan.
Trooper Donaldson was presented with the military's highest honour in January after displaying extraordinary gallantry under fire in the southern Afghan province of Oruzgan in September 2008.
He was on patrol when his combined Australian-US-Afghan convoy was ambushed by Taliban fighters.
Trooper Donaldson defied heavy machine gun fire to rescue a wounded Afghan interpreter.
