a couple of nice KOs from the early rounds of the 1996 IKO2 (now renamed WKO shin-kyokushin) 6th world tournament.
Not the best KOs of the tournaments by any means, but the clip was there and easy to upload :-)

Classic fullcontact knockdown karate rules. No punches or elbows to the head, only below the neck. Kicks and knees anywhere

  • no head protection???

  • There is no protection except groin cup (and mouth guard as optional equipment if a fighter wants it) in regular international rules knockdown karate (as used by kyokushin, enshin, world oyama, ashihara etc etc).

you might see different types of protective equipment used for kids, or (rarely) because of stupid local law, but never in tournaments with full international rules.

No gloves, no shin/foot padding, no head or chest protection.

  • well, sometimes, you got also bandages for the wrist or your feet if the fighter is hurt or something, is allowed to wear some bandages..

  • only for injuries occurring during the event.

The rule is that when you enter the first fight of the event, you do so without any bandages of any kind.

A few fights into a tournament and it is unusual for fighters NOT to have bandages and tapes on wrists and such though. Knockdown karate is not all that forgiving on the body.
