  • It seems a pity to me that Billiards over the years has lost its public interest in favour of Snooker.

    I ask you:

Can these present day Snooker Professionals also play Billiards like this? (as indeed Joe Davis once did)?

  • no other professional player at billiards or snooker has ever played billiards to the standard of Walter Lindrum! even against the top players of the day he use to give a start of 6000 to 7000 over a 2 week game and was very rarely beat

  • i jonny someone took a shot at him and it still didnt put him off

  • i think what the ref was refering to was that after so many shots (i think its 25) the canon has to be made indirect ie (striking the cushion first) and he was just stateing that Walter had played an indirect canon

  • @kingtut147 Thanks King Tut,this is a wonderful clip,Im glad you posted it.

  • @NAMTRIP because the rules state these days that you can only make 75 consecutive cannons before you have to play a different shot...this stops them doing precisely what you say...

  • @skawjw I see all you guys points, and do appreciate what Im seeing,I play and I know how hard the game is,but to walk 3 balls down the rail, just tapping them into each other softly,I just cant see what is so amazing about it,sure Its harder than it looks, but whats to keep a top pro from nursing it,and walking them all night long??

I can see a top pro player getting in control of a rail nurse, and shutting down the opponent for hours, and going thousands of points ahead.

  • CAN ANY1 EXPLAIN WOTS GOIN ON ERE?! AM A GOOD SNOOKER PLAYER N BEEN INVITED TO PLAY BILLIARDS?!! HOW THE FCUK DO I PLAY IT?!!!

  • This game must have been invented as therapy for obsessive compulsives. I'm aware of it, but never watched it (or of course never played it) before. I can see why they went to 3 cushion...

  • Correction, his left forearm!

  • The referee is Arthur Goundrill was very well known. He lost his right forearm at Ypres in WWI. During WWII he raised thousands of pounds for war charities by playing exhibitions.

  • i know...its absolutely astonishing.

and when he retired, they reverted the rule back because no players could live up to the them..

i mean people talk about don bradman, michael jordan, tigerwoods, being the most prolific sportsman of the century.

why shouldnt walter lindrum get a mention. the man was a genius of proposterous proportions. a highest break of over 4,000.

    an average break of 700.

and they said that walking on the moon was a triumph.

try knockin in a 4,000 break in 1.5 hours.

  • In an optimistic view.. It is a sign for the dominant player, that he really changed the game or "raised the bar"...

  • I do not play and/or watch many sport games... but I can give you two examples.. 1. Shaquille O'Neal.. a last minute foul called "hack a Shaq foul" grants a player a free throw.. 2. The shaded lane in the basketball court was enlarged because of George Mikan... My examples are in Basketball alone.. there are many more sports.. I have two more in my mind but I'm not that quite sure(one in basketball again and one in table tennis).. It's not that rare..
