Those fish can recover very fast, if given a chance.

They should allow at least 2-3 pounds or so, nothing for commercial, not even a pound

It's a God damn shame man.I was so looking foreward to go smelting on my way to visit my grandpap in Lebanon Oregon.I'm in California right now,but i spend most of my boyhood in the pacific northwest. Thanks for keeping me up to date Roger.

Hopefully we all learn a lesson or two from the ordeal.Maybe the law will do us all some good and the smelts as well.It wasn't like this back in the early 80's as i remembered in my boyhood.

That's what happened when privileges are being abused man.God chased Adam and Eve out of the Garden Of Eden for the same damn reason, people abused their privileges. They take, take and take and never gave a moment to help conserve and protect..

They ain't kidding, this is the land of plenty. We must protect and preserve also,to keep things plentiful....

Newport Oregon, the Salmon washed ashore on the sand after spawning season. It just laid dead and exhausted on the sandy shore.Great place for crabbing and digging for clams also.

I have wonderful childhood memorys of my father and I netting buckets full of these and my mother would fry those little rascals up in big old cast iron skillet. Talk about good eating! There are tons of them in Wisconsin still as far as I know. They are a smaller variety though so they may be a different branch of the smelt family tree? If they have died out there also that would be a same there were millions of them when I was a kid and not many folks actually fished them.
Dip it in flour and seasoning and fry it up dawg !! it go great with cold beer.My brothers and i used to do that.Go get some nettings, some buckets and scoop it up.Take it home and share some with the next door neighbors. I believed we got cited one time, broke some kind of fishing law,but it's all worth it.I love the pacific northwest. We just came from Cambodia at the time in the 80's,didn't know anything about the fishing law of the land.I believe we took more than we needed and got cited..

@SithSereyPheap1 Thanks for watching! They have put these fish on endangered list after they let them start taking them commercially with nets in the Columbia River. Now no one can have any......Roger
