@adedog if you NEVER use a closed slap then yes it IS djembe technique he's using. This solo doesn't have one sigle closed slap. telling us this guy is a djembe player. I not saying it is not good music, i like it but i also ask...where is the closed slap? could have made this a bit better with it.
Open slaps are perfectly acceptable on the congas, admittedly within a groove most Congueros use a closed slap, however within solos it is fine to use open slaps. Just because he is using an open slap doesn't make it a djembe slap, it looks to me like he is playing an open slap intentionally to get that specific sound for this solo. Nice drumming BTW!
