I was lucky to have a videocamera the morning we all woke up to a nasty ice storm in Western New York in March 1991. Here are some shots around Rochester about the day. (part 1 of 2)
I will never forget that week. It was beautiful and awful at the same time. Overnight I heard generators buzzing and exploding because they were being hit by lightning. Six of us had to sleep in one tiny room with a fireplace. We listened to a battery-operated radio that my grandpa had that broadcast the audio of tv shows. We got that week off from school. I will never forget that week as long as I live.
woahh you had a fancy shmancy camera for 91 it even had that time lapse feature, my grandfather has his own video footage from that day we should make a movie!
i felt bad for those who were in danger -no electricity or heat- but i was young and we had a ball ... it was a time when you could play outside and not worry about getting shot.

The ice storm created some very pretty scenery it also created some tough times for a lot of residents. And of course when the branches were turned into huge chip piles, they started burning as a result of spontaneous heating when they got wet and then the sun starting things up.
