During June we took an Alaskan cruise. As our ship departed Ketchikan, a USCG 25-foot Defender class RB-S (Response Boat, Small) escorted us from Ketchikan. Two cutters were moored nearby. As you can see, the weapon is manned. A USN friend suggested it may have been a training exercise or the crew showing off. He told me that "The M-60s (only one deployed on your escort — the stern pintle is unpopulated) will ruin your your day. However, they are 30 caliber, and considered small arms." Regardless, it was impressive. We may never know what this was about. Do you?

  • i know you guys are there for our safety, but i was on mi jet ski in my local harbor just idling along watching a cruise ship leave. I was 2 miles away from it and it was escorted by the R.I.B. such as in this video. Im 15 I have a boaters license and am not a jet ski idiot like most are that dont respect bigger vessels and ended have the machine gun pointed straight at my head.

  • The boat was manufactured by SAFEBOATS INTL. I would know because I work there. Hey beaman220, are those yamaha 300's? I cannot tell. I dont know your ID, but I probably have met you. I just started working there about 2 1/2 months ago. The boat Is built out of mostly 1/4 and 7/16 aluminum. Extreme designs, and wiring methods make this boat very demand fitting. Every boat that comes out of the warehouse is fully customized. From the kohler5ekd generators, to the a/c units. Im proud to work there

  • Thank you. All help is appreciated.

  • They are M240-B's not M-60's

  • I sit and do the gun and man the radio. ;)

  • Since 9/11 it has been pretty routine for armed USCG vessles to escort the Washington State ferries in Puget Sound, the also escort the liners when they call, I imagine that is now SOP for all passenger vessels.

  • Where was this?
