I think you're missing the point. The joke was always on Alf- this wasn't racist comedy. This writing cleverly subverts the 'acceptable' racism of the 1970s and if you're anything to go btw that lives on today.
So the joke is on you.

Loved this series and it should be on DVD. I totally agree with popvids40. Ethinics can be as racist as they like against whites but that's acceptable. This is all harmless fun and Alf Garnet is absolutely spot on about many subjects. I love his ranting and raving! Brilliant cast. PC is just pathetic now. I'm not racist and I'm into equal rights but I can take a joke and I've no offence to being called a 'bird' or hearing the word 'poof'. Get over yourselves and enjoy it!
