The United States Hockey League (USHL) may be familiar to Twin City hockey fans as the league was once home to the now defunct St. Paul Vulcans junior hockey team. The USHL is a developmental league for 17 20-year-old players who aspire to make it in higher levels of the game. The name Kevin Hartzell may also be familiar from his years as a Gopher hockey player in 197882. After Kevin left the Gophers he coached the Vulcans and has been with the USHL ever since. He now makes South Dakota his home as head coach of USHL team, Sioux Falls Stampede. Known more prominently as a basketball town, Hartzell has infused Sioux Falls with a passion for the puck.
