Car sat for 4 years and then was given to me. Didnt know it had hydraulics for the clutch. But I still drove it anyway. Went through the manual and found out about the hydraulics...so I fixed it and she drives perfect now. I love her!

  • i heard these cars are super easy to fix. is it true?

  • @88pie88 Yes they are VERY easy to fix. In fact I just received a new waterpump for my 83. I should have it on in less than an hour.

  • you can just start it in first

  • no I couldnt, it had a clutch safety switch like on a lawnmower...it kinda pissed me off. But it dont matter anymore as this car got owned by a minivan. Im pulling the motor to make a halftrack. My new tercel wagon 4x4 doesnt have a safety start switch so its all good.

  • That is no 84 Tercel.. That is either an 87-90 Tercel...

  • yeah i know that now. I was told it was an 84 and i was like thats awesome! cause my friends got an 84 rx7. after some digging around i found out that its an 87.

  • oh thats a bummer

  • hehe

  • it is risky, but in a desperate times call for the desperate measures, no?

My 97 tercel goes into 1 first at about 3mph, second at 10, third at 15, then 20 and 22 mph.

I never tried reverse, thanks a lot. A good way to feel where they will slip in and out without grinding is to drive in the specific gear and slow the speed of the wheels down while in gear until you can feel it syncronize. Then you can pull it out or put it in w/o clutchdepending on gear and speed of wheels.

  • sorry for talking so fast...I was excited. lol
