worldwide known samba school parade - which was also created by Mario

Filho in 1929 - are also shown.

For his participation in the creation of such large scale popular

events, Mario Filho became known as the "Crowd Creator"

football scene, such as João Havelange, and scholars attest to Mario

Filho's importance in the construction of a national identity. Some

recent images of the Flamengo supporters - the largest group of

football fans in Brazil at the 2009 Brazilian championship decision

show the crowd phenomenon as it is nowadays.

These newsreels were restored specially for this documentary, featuring great matches

filmed at the Mario Filho/Maracanã Stadium and Brazilian idols such as

Pelé, Zico, Garrincha, Rivelino, Leônidas da Silva, Fio Maravilha,

Manga and Didi, among others.

In the film, his literary style and his sublime, lyric and dramatic

vision of football and its players are portrayed with epic images from

historic newsreels from Atlântida Cinematográfica.

In Brazil, Mario Filho is called by many the "Homer of football", as

his chronicles record the history and create the symbology of gods and

heroes in Brazilian football. He wrote a chronicle everyday from 1926

to 1966, the year of his death.

Journalistic and poetic documentary about Mario Filho, the writer and

journalist that introduced the sports chronicle in Brazil and the

creator of the Brazilian football mythology. The Maracanã Stadium was

renamed after him: Mario Filho Stadium.
