Just a short video to demonstrate that using a delay pedal in front of distortion, tends to mush the notes together and sound unclear. If you tweak it right it could get a cool sound, but in most applications wouldn't work too good.

  • I guess at least 14 people don't like delay before distortion then...

  • Delay before distortion = teh shoegaze.

  • which is cool

  • sorry I meant I used my delay pedal to loop what I had played before, running the chorused & echoed signal into the amp. Then I just changed amp channels with the footswitch. One channel had the gain very low and the other channel had the gain cranked.

There are ways though to get delay before distortion to sound good though, the purpose of this video is to show it's different to using delay in the effects loop.

  • Just wondering, since you use your footswitch with your your fingers, ...were you playing the guitar with your feet?

  • No. I looped what I played with my delay pedal, and set it to playback over and over, into the chorus/echo pedal.

  • normally this doesn't do much, but then every so often you get someone like Paul Gilbert who swears by it and sounds amazing... guess its all just preference

  • Sounds like Black Metal... =)

  • Try the "MAD Professor Deep Blue delay" The delay is specially designed to work well with distorted tone, as this is the most critical application.u can use the pedal before or after distortion. As such, it will work exceptionally well on clean sounds where requirements are less stringent, especially in terms of echo bandwidth and repeat formation. The delay tone has been carefully tuned with lot of attention to the first critical reflection and how the repeats decay.
