"Rain Wipe" from ANNON is a device that removes rainwater from umbrellas and can be placed at store entrances to wipe away water from rain soaked umbrellas using a unique water absorption cloth.

The rainwater that is wiped off of umbrellas is removed using a unique film coating and is then accumulated in a tray at the bottom, and this tray only needs to be replaced after approximately 3,000 umbrellas are wiped dry.

To use the Rain Wipe, you just insert an umbrella in the hole at the top and then slide the umbrella through the hole 3 or 4 times.

  • maybe it saves millions of plastic bags.. ever thought of that?

  • woooooooooooooow sponges with a mini vaccum

  • dude can u guys back off wit the fucking sarcasm this is history in da making... it does'nt what they invent as long as they invent it...the japanese are one of the most intelligant people...i cnt even spell intelligant...

  • lol yeah... maybe an evaporation room

  • It doesn't help much with wet coats, etc... and so I wonder if robotic coat checks would be a reasonable possibility for the future...

  • In Japan, on a rainy day many stores have someone at the enterance putting your wet umbrella in a long thin plastic bag for you, so you don't mess up their store.

    That's quick and convenient.

They say in this video that you should stick the umbrella in the device two or three times. It seems to me that this will take much more time than just bagging the umbrella.

Will it catch on in the busy Japanese society? I don't know.
