This is how I make pot cozies for my cooking system in the backcountry. They really change the way I cook and save quite a bit of fuel as well.

  • So glad to see a new post. Great stuff, as always. While making my own set of pot cozies (based on your video) I added a "lid handles" on the center of the top and bottom so it made it easier to separate/pull-off. Simply utilized the tape; folder a one inch wide piece of tape over itself leaving half of the sticky side to attach to the center of each half of the cozies...and wala, lid handles that fold out of place.

  • @WhenSheSleeps Great idea! thanks for the tip.

  • Great Idea! Sewn neoprene would do similar. There's a marketing idea! You could sell on Ebay and make a small fortune.

  • hey Troy is this the same pot and pan set you have???? i was in the states looking but couldn't find the one you had on your websites gear list.

  • Thanks for posting. I just made two cozies. One for my GSI cookpot and one for my canteen cup. I will send you the video. Anthony.

  • Thanks for posting this video on Pot Cozies, Great Idea....All of your video's are Excellent and it really makes me want to get out there again, especially since it's December and snowing out...Uhg. I will look forward to any future uploads of future expeditions and tips....Well done Troy.

  • hi i have the GSI minimalist cookset and was wondering if i should make pot cozies or the neopreene sheath thing is good enough

  • Hey Maddy, How about some music credits for the fast-play bits. Its good stuff. The video too, btw. Thanks for your work. I'm heading to HomeDepot later today.

  • @AppalachianTraildoTV hahaha... what a maroon... iron (you really carry iron cookwear?? what a man you must be!!) like aluminum, or any other metal for that matter, is not an insulator. So you can carry all the cast iron you want, and still it won't do what these simple items will do. The thicker (heavier!) metal retains its latent heat, but likely even a cast iron dutch oven will cool quicker than the pots shown in the cozy described.

  • Made mine last week. Works great! Thanks for the how-to.

  • Thanks for this great video! Now to Home Depot to get the materials! :o)

  • What if you used a thicker walled pot and then you don't need the cozy and can keep a little of the caveman in ya and lose a little martha stewart? I'm just sayin' I don't know if my inner mountain man is comfortable making a cozy rather than just carrying a few more ounces of iron. If you know what i mean.
