Sound Waves

Hearing is dependent upon sound waves entering the inner ear. Sound waves of different frequencies create different wave forms in the basilar membrane within the cochlea. High-frequency sound vibrates the basilar membrane at the base of the cochlea, medium-frequency sound vibrates it in the middle and low-frequency sound vibrates it at the apex.
