I never argued that they were original. I also never argued about the classification of their music. I enjoy their music, the genre is irrelevant.
I'm a musician and a photographer and a painter, I'm plenty informed on music and art, thank you.
No, I did not care when I created the username 'cockardo'. You know why? Because it simply doesn't matter. If you can't joke about the small things then shit, man, you've got to be a pretty fucking dull person.

so while smoke your weed, and think of how everything sounds amazing! how original! some people are scoffing. and apparently, you didn't care when you decided to call yourself "cockardo" either.
-
you know, cockardo, it's so easy to say.. "frankly i don't care, i don't care..." after trying to argue some point about the classification of this music. do you know they play them on world cafe? and so no one does really care. no one often cares when people just take from what no one pays attention to and then takes credit for it.
-
it simply becomes gimmicky when it pretends to reference influences ethnocentrically. you don't think they're played on world cafe on kcrw? of course they are. i just think they sound silly and they may not be taken seriously by what they try to pass off as interesting. i'm glad you enjoy them. it may help to become a bit more informed though. art and music isn't just about ripping off things you like from cultures. there's a certain respect, ya know?

If you know they're from brooklyn I don't understand why you think listeners of world music would consider them stupid. Despite any influences, I'm quite sure that they can easily recognise that this is not world music.
Frankly I don't care, I enjoy the music regardless of whatever it is they or other people think they are.
-
oh and by the way, did you know that "bitte orca" is deutsch. ja! und was noch? "stillness is the move" has west african influences. is that not world music? in spite all of the mention of steely dan and such, that's what i hear. forgive me, i moved out of the brookies years ago.
-
@cockardo i remember when they came out into the scene. i'm all too familiar with "indie rock" scene there, and before then back in the days of williamsburg, yada yada... it's so played out. world folk becomes new terrain. if you haven't noticed, in spite of all they're credited for in their "influences" kiss-ass collaborations, it's all bullshit. folk it up. there's nothing new.
-
exactly. i know they're from brooklyn.
-
World music? They're from Brooklyn, buddy.

don't get me wrong, i love bjork, but i really don't get the dirty projectors collaborations. the guy sounds like jeff buckley. lyrically, they're trite. they seem to lack the originality their credited with. i think most people who appreciate world music would consider them daft. i'm not a fan at all. bjork i shall still follow loyally.
@liyosan "Volta wasn't awful, you just don't like it." Correct.

@lessonsoftoday Think what you may. Bjork only collaborates with people she respects highly. The part where they are making the 'ahh' sound is not haphazard singing; it may sound harsh to some, but it is still very orchestrated and purposeful, like all songs by DP. I must say, though, that there are times where it has been more effective, like on the songs "Beautiful Mother" and "Useful Chamber".
Also, Volta was absolutely awful! Homogenic and Vespertine are classics, and I adore Medulla.
