The EAST BAY DEPOT for CREATIVE REUSE, a non-profit store which has been likened to "a colorful museum of stuff you can buy - cheap!"
The depot serves teachers, artists, and low income creative resourceful people, and is a hub for reuse information, recycling ideas.
The ECOCITY WORLD SUMMIT invited executive director Linda Levitsky as a key speaker in 2008. As noted in the conference guide, "Teachers and arts and crafts people cherish the depot. "There is a spirit about the place" says Alameda County Schools Superintendent Shiela Jordan, "that elevates it from humdrum; here are some extra materials for you, to see all the exciting ways you can look at reuse and recycling while at the same time you are sparking creativity with your kids." It's like that because of Linda." Linda was also instrumental in identifying the extraordinary talents of renown outsider artist Leon Kennedy. He has been using the depot as a primary source of material for over a decade.

Located in Oakland, CA at 4695 Telegraph Ave.

The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse is an ecological treasure trove of art & craft materials, educational supplies, vintage furniture, home décor, paper goods, fabric, and much more. Founded in 1979 by two Oakland public school teachers, the Depot promotes solid waste diversion and resource conservation through the Depot store and environmental education programs

The mission of the East Bay Depot is to divert waste materials from landfills by collecting and redistributing discarded goods as low-cost supplies for art, education, and social services in our Depot Store. The educational mission is to increase the awareness of school children and the general public regarding the green benefits of reusing materials.

The East Bay Depot is a California non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
