@MsThebeMoon There was a famous country singer with the same name, but much older than this Jimmie. So there's the mix-up.

We lived a few blocks from where Jimmie grew up in camas, wa. My mother actually babysat for his kids. I was in first grade in the front row of my class when jimmie sang this and kisses sweeter than wine. I was totally smitten! It is so sad what happened to him :-(

As for the tuning, why dont you just ask him?

Sorry, I just mispelled Jimmy's name. Still can't believe two people didn't like this. Jimmy has a Christmas Album on Itunes. Some really nice stuff; including O Holy Night. I just love the clarity and tonality of his voice. Thanks for posting.

I cannot believe there are two people on the planet who do not like Juiiy singing this.
One of my favourite "voices" of all times.
Ya know, all this debate about how JR played the guitar makes for an interesting discussion, but the bottom line is, the guy was a BRILLIant singer... good lookin'
cat ,too, pretty much everything you might need to become a big star. I would
wager he came up w/ an open tuning of his own devising( here, a Minor tuning)
and was probably self-taught, hence the thumb over the top technique.
Remember Richie Havens had a similar technique.
