When new it's a great monitor - awesome specs and a good picture. But because of a defective Altera ball gate array chip, they almost always go bad after a year or so. Unlike most 30" monitors, the warranty is only 1 year. The XHD3000 uses a certain circuit board that some Samsung computers also used, which has a very high chance of developing a "strobing" symptom. Just looking at what people are saying after they've owned one for a year, it's apparent that something is wrong.

I sold this monitor along time ago. I've got the new DELL U3011 30" Screw Gateway they suck ass in general. Gateway is like a Lexmark printer. Move on and play hard......

well done guys, a look at a 1600p monitor done in a 240p video that is low bitrate even for 240p. just fucking outstanding.

@penisculatus,
True... but you might want to consider that the video was made 4 years ago. -- Were you taping and editing at 1080p 4 years ago?
All our videos from the past 2 years are in 1080p 60fps.

This gateway / acer monitor will fail after one year. We have owned 6 of the Dell 30008WFP monitors at work for three years now and they all work perfectly. If you want a brick then buy and Acer or a Gateway!!

@llllskywalker,
Sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience with Gateway/Acer. I have a mix of monitors in my lab, from Dell to Gateway/Acer and Sony. While I've had one or two issues with a single Gateway screen, I've been mostly happy. Still, nothing trumps experience and you're point is well taken.

Aren't priests supposed to take a vow of poverty?

@TechnicCreations,
I took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience more than 14 years ago as a member of the SJ.
I don't purchase or own any of the gear that is reviewed on 'gadget'- Like all reputable review shops, we receive the tech for a set loan period, during which I can decide if I want to put it on my show. After the review, the gear is either sent back to the manufacturer or donated. (Some manufacturers don't bother with returns of smaller and less expensive items.)
