132 Sparklers Lit All at Once!!

Okay, so not a drum cover but still cool nonetheless.

We were too lazy to stand in the drive way and burn through 2 packs of sparklers so we decided to tape them all up and let it burn. Instead of 30 seconds of a "light sparkle", we we got 1 second of a huge flash followed by several minutes of white hot glowing molten metal rods. Very cool. Just wished it didn't take so long to put the thing together!

This is the "last" time that the island of Oahu in Hawaii is allowing fireworks of any kind to be lit (unless used by professionals) Aerials have been banned for some time now and now the City has banned ALL types of fireworks.......even SPARKLERS as of January 2, 2011. I wouldn't be suprised if it became a statewide ban. Seems to be the trend.

This however, hasn't stopped the die-hard, almost philanthropic, amateur pyrotechnic madmen from getting their hands and cash on some good old, underground, "light the sky" kind of fireworks that many would only get to see at, oh say, the Beijing Olympics. Who's to say that this ban will stop anyone in Honolulu, or even Hawaii from what is treasured and valued as a tradition and almost right by many to celebrate humanity by taking an open flame to gunpowder?

If you haven't been to Hawaii during the New Years, Chinese New Year's (especially in downtown Honolulu) or the 4th of July, you'll never understand the scope of "fireworks" in our society and culture. Many of you go to parks or stadiums to view "professional" fireworks displays but here in Hawaii, you can get a very similar experience sitting in front of your house. The only difference is, there is no show and no choreographed music to go along with it. For the most part, it's just a bunch of fun loving folks firing off some of the largest and loudest fireworks that money can buy.
