It's really more difficult to throw grenade far. The distances at least in videogames are ridiculous, and also their effect. A frag grenade kills quite effectively around 15meters and during battle or otherwise when you'll have to cover the movement of your arms are also hindered by the lack of space and your body armor (and when training with dummies i noticed that sometimes trees were a problem too :P). So in real life, its really hard to throw one far enough to be safe withour cover :L
