International Studies
To adequately prepare for leadership in an increasingly interdependent world, we believe that students must have a chance to experience firsthand the people, languages and cultures of the world. Students at The Epiphany School in New Bern, North Carolina study global economies, cultures and religions in the classroom and traveling around the world.
Uncovering gifts for the journey . . .
Much more than just a slogan, this simple phrase captures our mission and guides all endeavors within our school community. Our foundational premise is clear -- all students are gifted. They come to us with unique talents, potential, and aptitudes that have been given to them by God. Like all schools, we embrace our responsibility to impart the knowledge and skills that are essential for living. However, we are distinguished by our rigorous and nurturing environment in which students evolve into the best versions of themselves -- a climate where they soar to new heights in mind, body and spirit. We provide a vast array of educational opportunities that challenge young people to embrace their gifts and share them confidently with others. We nourish their desire to become all that God wants them to be as they embark on a lifelong journey of learning, faith, leadership and service.
Academic Opportunities
Our vigorous college preparatory program for students in grades 5-12 is comparable to the best independent schools in our region. All students are challenged to surpass the expectations of North Carolina's standard course of study. They fulfill ambitious requirements in math, science, literature, history, and classical & modern languages. Our distinctive writing program empowers students to communicate convincingly. Most courses utilize a seminar format, enabling active dialog and fostering our students' abilities to think critically. Our expected partnership with the International Baccalaureate Organization will provide a global education that empowers students to appreciate the diversity of cultures and perspectives in our world.
Co-Curricular Opportunities
We believe that learning extends well beyond the classroom. Some of the most important discoveries that our students make about themselves and others occur when they perform on the stage or compete on the playing field. Because we recognize the lasting value of these experiences, all of our co-curricular programs operate according to a "no-cut" policy. Every student can actively participate in and make a positive contribution to community life. We offer extensive opportunities in athletics and the performing arts. Students are encouraged to join special interest clubs. Extensive opportunities for leadership development abound. A typical Epiphany student is engaged in a range of positive activities — always seeking to try new things, to advance in new directions, and to uncover new gifts. Epiphany offers the following sport programs: fall- girls volleyball & boys soccer, winter- girls & boys basketball, spring- girls soccer, boys baseball & co-ed golf.
Spiritual Opportunities
Among their many journeys in life, our students are encouraged to commit themselves to the journey of faith. Our school is firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian tradition, but without any particular denominational affiliation. Every school day begins as our entire community gathers for prayer. Students have opportunities for extended retreat experiences. Clergy from a variety of faith traditions are invited to visit our campus and share with our students. In all endeavors, we embrace the challenge of the Gospel to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves.
