Sweden's internal, most famous film comedienne during the past century, lovely Sickan Carlsson passed away 96 years old the 2nd November. She was born 1915. Sickan did over 50 films during her career mainly as female leading role. Her name at the cast was an insurance that the movie should be a success. During the thirties forties and fifties, the Swedes had the opportunity to frequently see a couple of Sickan films every year. Her sunny behaviour and her dimples, left a deep imprint in the Swedish people's soul, especially during times of crisis like during the guarding times of the Swedish frontiers at WW2. Sickan never had a diva status, she was more like the girl next door. When I lived in Stockholm some years ago I frequently was taking the same bus as her, then a bit over eighty, she always was nice to people and had a sunny smile. Still she had a rare kind of way, to give great respect. Even if Sickan was old and not performed the last year (she was still performing around her eighties) it's very sad, and the Swedish autumn turned more grey with the message that she had passed away.
This record, Smått förälskad (Bits of love) was made in October 1940, and she performed it at the movie; Gentleman att hyra (Gentleman to rent). Thank you Sickan, and RIP
