Art is cool, am I right ?

Released in 2010 on Broken Spine.

Nadja collaborates with Italy's Ovo to make a concept album about a wasp that gets stuck in a jar of sugar and then stirred into some sugar and drowns. ...yeah. Each duo wrote 2 tracks and the other duo finished them.

Well, we all know what to expect from Nadja by now, don't we ? Drones, slow paced songs. They're never afraid to experiment and try new things with their drone-y sound. This album has drone. It's slow, deep, rich. It hums and moans and squeaks. Awesome.

But, on the other hand, there's this crazy woman squealing and screeching and babbling maniacally . I guess she's supposed to personify the wasp and his agony and sugar high, supposed to bring the concept to the surface, but my god, is it silly and distracting.

Ovo also bring some drumming to the fold. Typical slow paced drums that sometimes kick it into a more tribal, aggressive mood. Nothing new here.

This release is guaranteed to raise some eyebrows. It is not your standard drone / experimental metal album. It's weird, but only cause the vocals are so distracting and crazy. I'd venture to say the release would have been much better without them. The music is creepy, lumbering and varied (for drone). With the vocals, it becomes silly and absurd. Oh well, the last track is cool at least. :/

  • Is radiance in shadows any good? My local store (which happens to be the official 20buckspin store) has that and one other one. also blackbonedangel collab, but I already have that.

  • @macleodponeage Whoa, the 20buckspin store ? Wicked ! Sounds like heaven !

As for the album, it's not my favorite, but some people like it. I'll give it a review soon.

  • For the record, the cover art is ALSO a collaboration between myself and OvO's Stefania Pedretti. Thanks for the nice words.

  • @theneedledrop There's no OvO and Nadja side, it's a collaboration album.

  • @YoureWrongImRight actually the store's a small space within a shitty clothes store. What they have there is pretty cool though. lots of drone/noise/metal. and its block away from a bigger, though not really better music store, so i don't know. Olympia's kind of dumb.

  • @xane3 I agree. Axis of Perdition is really awesome. I only recently got into them, but I would say that they are definitely one of my favorites of the genre.

  • @theneedledrop Ditto.
