Ms Lajwanti Thakurdas Melwani of White Sands Primary School is one of the 10 winners of the Inspiring Teacher of English Award 2010!

66 teachers were nominated by their students, parents and fellow teachers, and endorsed by their principals, for the Inspiring Teacher of English award.

The Inspiring Teacher of English Award is jointly presented by The Straits Times and the Speak Good English Movement, and supported by the Ministry of Education.

Singaporean teachers please correct yourselves and stop teaching your pupils to pronounce 'flour' as /flɑ:/ .Both Americans and English pronouce 'flour' as /flaʊ-ə/. If you know phonetic alphabet, go check it up. My tuition class pupils are facing a dilemma: if this word appears in an oral exam reading passage, should they pronounce the correct one or the one Singaporean teachers have mispronounced?
