He's called Dick Gaughan - that's gaughan, not gowan. Pronounce gocken, but the ck is more of a ch.
And please, he's not Scotch: he isn't golden in colour and in a bottle. He's Scottish.
Apart from that (sorry, I'm a grumpy Scotsman) - you did the song well. Cheers.

Everyone knows that this song is by Leon Rossleson! Not Dick Gaughan. Rant over... well maybe not. Leon is a great songwriter. Dick rocks as well.

Gaughan always credits Rosselson (and all others whose songs he covers). And yes, this is a relatively recent song. Most accessibly, it was re-recorded on RosselSongs in 1990. But frankly, Gaughan does the best rendition of it, although Bragg comes close.

Thank you for writing, Hellishhorse---I really appreciate it coming from somebody who was there on St. George's Hill and also honors brave ancestors. Lord, will there ever be enough luxury golf courses? They are devouring once again the "common" people's resources even in countries where, ecologically, they are sure to bring disaster. "Ye poor, take courage!" the song says. I hope we all soon get it together and change the way we're going....
