Carey Beebe demonstrating how to insert the hitchpins.

The soft iron hitchpins are inserted in the holes previously drilled in the pearwood 8´ tail hitchpinrail. A simple pushing tool made from a brass rod is used for convenient handling of the pins: Their consistent projection above the hitchpinrail is determined by the depth of the hole drilled in the end of the rod. The pins are lightly inserted in each hole, then tapped home. Finally, a special tool is used to bend the exposed head of each pin away from the eventual pull of the strings. The harpsichord is then ready for stringing.

  • @npcarey Yes, a special tool is used to bend the soft iron hitchpins away from the pull of the strings. Please check the technical description.

  • Curious about what you're doing @ about 45 seconds? Bending all the pins to a specified angle? It's a bit hard to tell from the angel of the video.
