Time Travelers is a unique type of animation called machinima, which uses a real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engine to create a cinematic quality production.

The practice of using graphics engines from video games arose from the animated software introductions of the 1980s demoscene, Disney Interactive Studios' 1992 video game Stunt Island, and 1990s recordings of game play in first-person shooter (FPS) video games, such as id Software's Doom and Quake.

Time Travelers was shot entirely inside of Second Life, the popular virtual reality world that players and business have embraced. This is the first web series of this type to use Second Life as a 3D production platform rather than the traditional CGI, saving time and cost.

The executive producer is James Canton, CEO of the San Francisco based think tank, the Institute for Global Futures leading futurist, author and visionary. The producer of Time Travelers is Pooky Amsterdam, of Pooky Media, a noted innovator in producing animation in virtual worlds. The Director was Russell Boyd who leads an international team in San Francisco, New York City and Scotland.

Time Travelers was sponsored by the leader in education financing SLFC and iHelp, committed to helping students achieve their educational and career goals. Time Travelers will be seen online, at film festivals and throughout the nation at
