Apparently you lack the ability to understand IRONY. Listen to the words more closely, and you will--maybe--learn something about that concept. The song specifically uses this phrase to point up the negative connection with many people throughout history who have just followed orders. However, it also has sympathy for the soldier who entered the war thinking he/she had something good to do, only to discover, as the song makes clear "there is no God in hell." War is hell...
