Chorus They mocked Him and they scorned Him and they smote Him on the face, How crudely they treated the Redeemer on that day. They lead Him out to bear the cross, He stumbled and He fell, How is it this stumbling man has power to save your soul from Hell? Chorus Lifted up upon the tree, lifted up to die. His mother wept, as she beheld her son against the sky. They layed Him in the tomb that day, guarded by two men, But early on that Easter morn our Savior rose again!

That's Debbie Kerner Rettino singing. She was one the trailblazers from the Jesus Movement of the '70s. Amazing to see Kathryn Kuhlman and Chuck Smith at the beginning. What a blessing! Thank you so much for posting this.

There were some very talented musicians in the Jesus movement.
To access some of the music from that era, you can visit the one-way[dot]org site and use the sub domain mp3. There are tons of albums to download for free there. Some is from the 70s, some from the 80s and a bit from the 90s.
I recommend Brown Bannister, Bob Bennett, Andy McCarroll, Randy Stonehill and the Seventy Sevens. Oh! and Tim Sheppard - Diary, Inside My Room and I am Determined are awesome!

Thanks very much Ghhoulardifan! We bought those books for the kids back in the early 90's. We still have them.

I just remembered: Debby Kerner; She did a lot of work in the 80s and 90s with her husband Ernie for children's ministry. My kids enjoyed their Psalty projects and so did I.

She's Debby Rettino now but back then she went by Debby. I can't remember her maiden name. She was an early Jesus Movement singer from Calvary Chapel.
Debbie used to be my music teacher at maranatha christian acadamy at calvary chappel in costa mesa. I remember when she married ernie retino. Wow, what great memories. I so much miss that time.

nice song. Don't know if it reminds me more of Joan Baez or Joanie Mitchell.
