@pisspea2008 Oh ok. So Americans bred Fila's to be less aggressive? Well I bet American-line Fila's are still very aggressive and protective.
I would rather own an American-line Fila by the looks of yours. That is a very nice looking dog, and the best Fila I've seen so far.
I would kill to have a dog like that, literally lol >:D.

@pyne13 These dogs were bred to track and kill runaway slaves and jaguars. They were basically bloodhounds with mastiff blood to make them more muscular and able to fight a large predator or human. After slavery was abolished in Brazil (around1904) and large cats became scarce the breed was only used for dog fighting. They proved to be very poor fighters compared to dogos and pits. The breed was revived by the police and military, and because of this they are unfairly labeled as dangerous
Strangers don't pet Real Filas! I would know I have two. The one from America will let a burglar into the house and hall off everything! The one I have from Brasil will take your hand off if you try to touch him or any of my family. And with a real Fila they are safer with your children than a poodle. Its like a walking security system. However never let you son play with other boys around the dog if they roughhouse the Fila will kill the friend from fear your son is being attacked.

You're right about USA and Brazilian Filas being not only different in temperament and size. Just like the one between Pitbull and Staffordshire Terriers, Does that mean neither breeds are "real" according to your expertize? I chose the American-look over its Brazilian more bloodhound-like and the more "docile"(if it can ever be called that) since I'm not interested in showing or breeding, simply a family member and pet. Never mind the dog, beware of the owner applies to burglars.

these dogs can savage trust me

like any dog breed with potential to bite and attack, if mishandled, mistreated, abused or anything of the sort of course they can be savage. Common sense dictates you should never leave a dog with this potential alone with a child or a stranger. Montana is more "sociable" than most Filas tend to be. The children play with him, pull on his tail, etc. and he drools all over them and plays rough, but not a snap or bite in anger towards them. It all depends on being irresponsible.

@pisspea2008 Looks more like a Tosa inu to me. Either that or its half Tosa half Fila?
The reason hes more sociable is maybe because hes not pure?I don't know, he looks different than most Filas. Anyway, very nice looking dog though. Did you get papers saying hes pure?

Thanks for posting. Nope, no Tosa in him, wouldn't mind if he did for
they are one of my favorite breeds as well.
He is "sociable" with family children and those strangers he has come
to know. When we walk him he doesn't lunge or attack, but is def on high
alert and don't suggest you come try to pet him without permission. When
I got him it was agreed it was for pet only, hence no papers. Filas in the USA tend to be much larger than their Brazilian counterparts and "docile".
