  • Hi Mart,

Looks like you are making real progress....keep it up and you will reap the rewards.

    Hendo in Oz.

  • @hendojohn Hi John, Thanks, it has been a real journey to here, Like your solar powered pump you have going there with sun tracker, that looks like a winner. Looking at all of the Aussie aquaponic videos I am getting an idea of how much you pay for electric and how you guard water.

  • Followed you here from TSP. Keep the progress vids coming. Duckweed needs strongish sunlight to grow. I did well with floating a plastic colander in the fish tank outside. The surplus duckweed escapes and the fish snack on it. Unfortunately there isn't any way to know how much they're feeding. Otherwise a kiddie pool in the backyard will grow quite a bit of duckweed. It needs surface area. Beware of water snails.

  • @thanson77 Hi!

I talked with the gent I bought the duck weed off ebay and he uses CFLs to grow his, I am trying LED lights at night and putting it in the sunshine during the day. I tried picking up some kiddee pools but they are out of season here, when the season roles around I will try to pick some up. The floating colander sounds like a great idea Got my shotgun ready for the water snails LOL :-)

  • You're really coming along. The duckweed does well in Fl once it warms up.I'm interested to see how the tilapia breed.I have no idea how you tell if they are opposite sex or not.I'm way behind on getting started with this.Good job!

  • @garbageguru1 I found a web site that shows how you tell them apart I love the web! Sorry to see your metal detector broke on you :( When you are not looking will swipe your worm bin :-) I like the size and the construction of the flow thru design you have, and appears you have many happy worms.

When fish get too cold, they stop eating---

  • @NIK4EVA Thanks!

  • Hey, Good luck on your project. Looks promising. If I had my own backyard I would do something akin.
