  • whats the ramp thingo for ?

  • Man, what Gary is showing applies to ANY brand new bass.

Unless you ask in your store or to your luthier to have it setup, NO brand new bass comes ready to play, neither the cheapest, nor the more expensive ones.

Also this is a very good video for starters to make those adjustements by themselves, this way they'll know better their own instrument.

  • @mattman4bullet To optimize string control!

  • @con6mill use you tuning pegs to tune your string... and then check the harmonic if it's off tighten or loosen the screw.... the retune the string using the pegs and check the harmonic again... and so on and so on till you get the harmonic right on a tuned string.

  • @mattman4bullet His playing dosn't use the front pickup at all, so he has a ramp there to stop him from grabing to much string on each strum.

  • @adlibmusic String height is usually measured where the neck meets the body, usually at the seventeenth fret. The height you choose is totally up to you, but a nice medium-low action is around 5/64" from string bottom to fingerboard (fretless) or fret top (fretted).

  • @con6mill Adjust the length.

  • @F3FisGoodforYou it reminds your fingers to play with a lighter touch. so instead of some notes being too harsh and others being to soft its more of an even volume and intensity. Matthew Garrison also does it with his Fodera bass. I put a piece of Walnut between my pick ups on my Warwick and it really helps you play with more of a smoother attitude.. It probably helps more depending on how hot your pick ups are.

  • What's the utility for this piece of wood between the pickup and the neck ??

  • I'm a beginner. If the harmonics at the 12 th fret are off, how do I know whether I need to use tuning pegs or adjust the length as shown in this video?

  • @mattman4bullet

Optimum string control and more control over dynamics!

  • Thanks for the solid setup tips...always good to see what a master does so we can better find our own way.
