Well, once again, Value Village has come through for me. I went by there on my lunch break at school and I came across yet another cheap old-school computer. This time for only $5!

This is a Packard Bell 884 from circa 1998. It has a 4GB hard drive, 128MB RAM (I replaced it with 64MB and put the 128MB in my HP Pavilion) and Windows 98 First Edition (replaced it with Windows 95 after video was shot).

Keep in mind that by 1998, Packard Bell was not making computers like they were in the mid '90s, when my original Packard Bell and my current Packard Bell Legend 1510 Supreme were made. By the Windows 98 era, Packard Bell had minimized into more of a standard, low-key computer company. The company pulled out of the United States market in 2000 and hasn't returned since. This computer I bought today is a perfect example of a Windows 98 era Packard Bell.

  • I HAVE THIS !?

    I need to go tell ma gran not to go throw it out , it's in her garage.

  • Defrag the computer!

  • I got three computers at one night lol and I only paid for one. Too bad they all have problems of their own :(

    One computer had a password so I wiped the drive, The other is freakishly slow, and the final one won't detect any mice.

  • I love your computer videos. Instant Subscription!

  • My computer runs Windows 7.

    Start->Control Panel->Sound->"Sounds" tab

    The "Start Windows" option is not there. How do you change your startup sound on Windows 7?

  • @Roadgeek 1994 Packard Bell Running Windows 98 Arthur on PBS Special Edition on WGBH.

  • Hey, what do you prefer, CRT or LCD? I most likely prefer crt because its more stronger and they last you way longer than lcd's

  • I'm from Australia and we do have Value Village but they are known as Savers stores.

  • How often does Value Village have older computers, you know, from the era of that Packard Bell? I would like to get more. I have a giant computer tower, it's an RJC, it's in a couple videos, I have one dedicated to it.

  • i had a later packard bell computer than this, a pentium 3 with windows Me that had the house environment. obviously they brought it back lol
