However I have to explain that, while this uke really is a very cheap one, it's not a bad one. Indeed it intonates very well, the fretboard is well-made and its tone is very nice too. I know a lot of much more expensive, clearly inferior ukes.

This is a good one, and I enjoy playing it. There are a lot of other cheap ukes which I wouldn't want to play.

You have provided us with a clear example that the sound an instrument produces is partially controlled by the individual playing it. A relatively cheap uke can still sound like an expensive uke in the hands of a master musician. You could have handed Chet Atkins the cheapest Kay or Harmony guitar ever made and it would still sound like Chet Atkins.
