This is a 6 segment dish producing an effective work are of 8". No measurements on temperature yet due to crappy weather. This solar parabolic reflector is a 90%+ mirror. The Solar acrylic mirror needs to be mounted and has a 12" diameter hole in the center.

3318"sq (21406cm) - 113"sq (729cm) for the center = 3205" sq in. (20677cm)

8" diameter work area 50" 66:1 ratio.

1.9 sq M

These figures need to be doubled checked.

  • Where can i get one of these ?

  • @Zoomtronic1 I have scrapped this idea, they are way too fragile and the beam is too scattered. I was hopeful it worked. This dish is now in many pieces:-( Darn wind.

  • Why is there nothing on here as to how to get one of these?

    Jack Rickard

  • @marionrickard The acrylic for this design was too thin and produced a poor spot. Also because of the moulding process, there was little control over light scattering. We have up to 46" mirrors on our website greenpowerscience they are true shapes with great spots, just smaller. The acrylic is also thicker so they don't break easily. This mirror array is now in pieces:-(

  • I wonder if building a frame to mount that on with some screw like devices that when tightened would push out on any imperfections in curvature for even more uniformity.

  • I think that would be a great idea, this is distorted because it is just propped up. The problem with thicker acrylic is cost, there is over $600 in raw acrylic in these before work. Thicker acrylic will not works as the pieces will not fit and also too expensive.

The imperfections are from the moulding process, they are like little bumps. The mould is very rare and acrylic usually does not show the imperfections when clear but the metalizing brings it out.

  • Unless I'm mistaken, acrylic scratches pretty easily if untreated. Be careful!

  • Another great video my friend. What is your opinion of "Spray paint" chrome? What efficiency do you think reflective paints have?

Peace and Happy holidays to you and Denise.

  • could you say what is the main difference if you use metal sheet or acrilic sheet? one of the disadvantage for metal sheet is only wieght and one of the disadvantage for acrilic sheet is cost ? which one do you use, you get more spot light? and also how is making parabolich dish for assembling parts? is it only flat sheet or ready parabolic sheet? please answer me as soon as possible because i am making an experience and so it is important for me there is no time for me.thanks

  • Around the end it looks like space for a second.

  • Could you mount a reflective cone and/or prism at the focal point and channel the light to a smaller diameter, maybe something the size of a pinpoint?

  • I have produced steam with an old 8' dish covered with sign quality reflective film. I will be posting more, but currently I have the dish facing down testing the longevity of the film. It has been out for about 6 months now in the Florida sun and the adhesive is showing no signs of degradation.

  • Did you bought this parabolic or did you made it yourself?
