This is a video demonstrating a cochlear implant surgery. In this surgery performed by Dr. Hamid Djalilian, a soft technique is used to not open the cochlea without perilymph leakage. This technique has been found to improve the chance of hearing preservation. Dr. Djalilian has been able to preserve hearing even after placing a full length electrode. This surgery is performed at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center.

  • The implant isnt on till 2-6 weeks after the surgery. After that time they set it too whatever the child needs. The base that off the childs ABR. Also as there putting it through the hole onto the cochplea (sp) it coils just like the cochplea.

  • so does the electrode just band on its own when inserted through into the cochlear?
