CENTRALVALLEYFOOTBALL.COM — Clovis West running back Kendal Brock did his best to keep his Eagles in the game, but a 21-0 second half for Buchanan gave the Bears a 38-14 win on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Eagles fought hard and Buchanan, the top ranked team in the section, could only take a 17-14 lead into halftime. Clovis West had a legitimate chance to take a 21-17 lead into halftime when Brock took a kickoff and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown, but it was called back because of a penalty.
Brocks two touchdown runs of 39 and 52 yards were the only points the Eagles could put on the board for the game.
Buchanan quarterback Lance Orender had a phenomenal night, throwing for four touchdowns, three of which were to the Valleys leading receiver Jake East. All four were spectacular plays, whether he sold the play-action so well the defense bit on it and hit East for a 51-yard strike or scrambled around and found tight end Kyle Novak in the end zone or connecting with East again for a 74-yard touchdown pass.
For the second week in a row, the Eagles let a close game get away from them in the second half.
But in the end, the Bears 21-0 second half performance put the game out of reach and brought Buchanans record to 7-0 and 2-0 in TRAC play. Clovis West falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the TRAC.
