Donna Reed and James Stewart in Frank Capra's Christmas classic, It's A Wonderful Life from 1946, when they really knew how to make a movie. Stewart had not made a movie since the 1941 film Ziegfeld Girl, but the 5 year gap for military service did not diminish his acting skills in the least. Girl next door, Donna was perfectly cast as the love interest to Stewart's George Bailey. You have to wonder if they treated Donna Reed for neck whiplash after filming this scene. This scene was 100 pounds of emotion in a 5 pound container. Hollywood, sadly, will never again produce a movie at this level. This is the short version, 3:50 min., I will also post the long version. This movie also had a colorized version, which was nicely done, but colorized classics are generally like yellow snow, something to avoid. Be sure to use the 480 setting.

  • @Eyohannes93 Don't forget that they got married, making the "annoying old mom" his now mother-in-law.

  • *awww* :')

  • @candocando Did not shake her that hard. Her hair bouncing makes it look rougher. It makes it so much more real. So much emotion.

  • @candocando usually I would agree - but in this case Mary really know's George........remember she witnessed old man Gower slap him and the struggles with Potter. Their friendship/relationship was so deep the "shake" was ok I think x

  • I think its such a beautiful scene, the tension between the two is amazing, but I'm not too keen on how he shakes her...seems a little rough?

  • Almost shockingly good scene - in a movie thats full of them. Love it when she smashes the record out of frustration - such random violence from little Donna Reed. She's so in love and wanted that night to go better. And poor George - also wanting to fall in love but not wanting to feel pushed into anything .... I don't why I came here in the first place...

  • @plove53 :he is angry about himself because he falls in love with her and it hurts. It hurts because he loves her so much he knows his life will change and he won't have the time to do the things he wants to do : travelling and build things. As if lovw wasn't supposed to happen in his life.

  • never understood this scene
