Sadly lukes last perfomance,
and amazing right until the end.

Lyrics:

I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

And when he came to his true love's dwelling
He knelt down gently upon a stone
And through her window he's whispered lowly
Is my true love within at home?

Wake up, wake up love, it is thine own true lover
Wake up, wake up love, and let me in
For I am tired love and oh, so weary
And more than near drenched to the skin

She's raised her off her down soft pillow
She's raised her up and she's let him in
And they were locked in each others arms
Until that long night was past and gone

And when that long night was past and over
And when the small clouds began to grow
He's taken her hand and they've kissed and parted
Then he saddled and mounted and away did go

I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

Luke Kelly is a legend. His gravestone bears the inscription; 'Luke Kelly, Dubliner'. No more need be said !

My old man is a Glaswegian, and as tough as nails, he has always spoken openly about how incredibly tough and proud his neighbouring country Ireland is, Luke Kelly epitomizes this pride and strength. For this man to sing his farewell to loved ones and country knowing his time is near, and not well, says it all. Ireland you are blessed to have Luke Kelly as your son.

The Lord bless you and keep you,

The Lord make His face to shine upon you

    And be gracious unto you;

The Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon you

    And give you peace,

    Now, and forever more.

    From Scotland with deepest affection.

    Thank you Luke

If you listen carefully at 3:22 as the last note dies out, you'll just about hear Ronnie Drew softly say..."Good man Luke"..that comment just about sums it all up about this clip. For me it's an incredible epitaph, not alone for Luke Kelly, but for the rest of the deceased Dubliners in it.RIP,or maybe,Rest In Ructions would be a better wish for them all.

I'm too young to have heard Luke Kelly when he was alive but I certainly know him in spirit. This video breaks my heart. He knew this was his last performance and so did Ronnie Drew next to him. We can then see Youtube videos of poor Ronnie in his last days. Two legends together in life and death.

unbearable it may be... but that in itself is the beauty, the power of the song, this isn't him just singing, it's him saying goodbye. He has accepted that death is nigh, and that he's ok with it, because he knows he's lived to the fullest
